Budget and paperwork

The most difficult thing to do is not the trip in itself bur to organise everything at home before leaving. Settle your bills, rent your flat, paperwork, visas, demanding your boss to let you leaving etc...

The easiest way to deal with the bills that come while travelling is to allow the bank to pay them directly every month for you. For the income tax you can do it by Internet. Think to change your mail address so that a friend could deal with your mail and parcels.

In order to make this trip I had to rent my flat to pay the fixed fees I have at home (taxes, insurance, home credit and so).

Carnet de passage

If you want to travel with your motorbike in Asia and Africa, a carnet de passage is required. It's a kind of passport for your bike that has to be stamp at the entry and exit of every country. This is to avoid illegal vehicles importation. The carnet the passage has to be asked at the country where the motorbike is registered.

You will have to leave a deposit to obtain it. Most of the time the deposit is at least 150% of the value of your bike. This deposit is refundable when the carnet the passage is shown back home, with all the stamps of entry/exit on it.

Visas

I need visas for all the countries that I’m going to pass through. It is always better and faster to apply for them at home than applying overseas. The problem is that most of this visa only last for three or six months. Therefore I only applied for those of Iran and Pakistan at home. I will do the rest in the neighbour countries on my way.

The best and faster way to get a visa to Iran is to deal with an agency. I dealt with Iranianvisa. This service cost around 30 €, they are reliable and at least you are sure to get the visa on time and without hassle. Once you get it, the one to Pakistan is easy to obtain.
